Define God’s Character as Your Standard
Week 6 – Day 1
Story
When Priya thought about “integrity,” she mainly pictured rule-keeping: avoiding obvious lies, not stealing, staying generally moral. Then a crisis at work forced a choice between protecting her reputation and telling the full truth about a mistake. As she wrestled with her conscience, she realized her standard had been, “What will keep me out of trouble?” rather than, “What reflects God’s character?” That week she studied passages about who God is, compassionate and gracious, abounding in steadfast love, yet perfectly just. She wrote a list of His attributes and prayed, “Let who You are be my standard.” When the moment came, she chose honesty, and even though it was not easy, she wanted her actions to show His nature.
Scripture
“He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
Application
Integrity is not just about avoiding obviously wrong behavior; it is about aligning your choices with who God is. Today, study His character and identify traits you want your decisions to reflect. When integrity is defined by His nature, not by convenience or culture, your standard becomes clear, even when the cost is high.
Daily Challenge
Action: Study key passages about God’s character, for example Exodus 34:6–7; Deuteronomy 32:4; 1 John 4:8, and list the traits you want to reflect. Identify a current decision that tests that commitment.
Prayer: Lord, let who You are be my standard, not what is easy. Amen.
