Study Biblical Counsel-Seekers

Week 4 – Day 5

Study Biblical Counsel-Seekers

Story

Sam had always admired David’s courage and Nehemiah’s leadership but had rarely noticed how they related to counsel. During his devotional time, he read Exodus 18 and saw Moses, God’s chosen leader, humbly receiving Jethro’s critique of his leadership structure. Then he turned to 2 Samuel 12 and watched David repent after Nathan confronted his sin. Finally, he read Acts 15, where the apostles and elders struggled and even argued together to discern God’s will about Gentile believers. In each story, those closest to God still needed, and welcomed, counsel. Sam realized that if Moses, David, and the early church needed wise voices, he certainly did too.

Scripture

“Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 11:14)

Application

Scripture gives you living portraits of what healthy counsel looks like. Today, study one or more biblical scenes where God used others to guide His people. As you observe their humility, courage, and obedience, ask God to create the same heart in you. These stories remind you that seeking counsel is not a sign of spiritual immaturity; it is the normal way God has always led His people.

Daily Challenge

Action: Read one or more of these passages: Exodus 18 (Moses and Jethro); 2 Samuel 12 (David and Nathan); Acts 15 (Jerusalem Council). Note what you learn about receiving counsel.

Prayer: Lord, give me the humility of Moses, the courage of David to face hard truth, and the community discernment of the early church. Amen.
