Surrender Your Long-Term Story
Week 7 – Day 1
Story
Caleb loved plans. His journal was full of timelines, including plans for career milestones, financial targets, and ministry goals. Many of them were good, but underneath was fear: If I don’t hold tightly enough, my life might slip off track. One evening, meditating on God’s word and praying about trusting God’s sovereignty, he sensed the Spirit asking, “Whose story is this, yours or Mine?” He realized that while he had asked God to bless his plans, he had rarely asked God to author them. That night, he laid his dreams before the Lord and prayed, “Do with this as You will.” The details didn’t suddenly become clear, but his heart loosened its grip and anxiety lifted. He began to see his life less as a self-managed project and more as a story God was writing.
Scripture
“In their hearts, men plan their course, but Yahweh directs their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
Application
Trusting God’s sovereignty starts with acknowledging that He, not you, is the true Author of your story. Today, take your long-term plans, goals, and hopes and decide to place them in His hands. This doesn’t mean abandoning them, just moving from self-reliance to surrendered cooperation with His wisdom and love.
Daily Challenge
Action: Lay your written goals or mental plans before God in prayer. Tell Him honestly what you hope for, then invite Him to direct, rearrange, or completely rewrite them as He wills.
Prayer: Lord, my life is not my own. Direct my steps in ways that honor You, even when they differ from what I imagined. Amen.
