Establish Sacred Communion
Week 3 – Day 1
Story
Sofia had always squeezed prayer into times when she had nothing else to do and scrolling her phone stopped being interesting. This meant prayer happened with whispered words in the car, or a few sentences before bed. When her life grew more complicated, her prayers grew more desperate, but not deeper. Reading about prayer being “the connection” between herself and God, she realized that she had never given God her best time, only leftovers. She decided to make a simple change and set her alarm 20 minutes earlier to meet God in the same chair each morning. The first few days felt awkward as her mind wandered and the silence felt long. However, she kept showing up, and over time she noticed small changes. The time in the chair began to feel like a safe place, and the invitation of Jesus, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest,” started to feel like it was spoken directly to her weary soul.
Scripture
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Application
Establishing a sacred time and place for prayer is a small statement that communion with God is intentional, rather than an optional extra. Today is about choosing and protecting that space, and it may not be perfect, but it will be intentional and faithful. When we return to the same place, day after day, our heart learns that God will meet us there. Decisions made after resting in His presence are different from decisions made on the run.
Daily Challenge
Action: Choose a consistent time and place for daily prayer. Sit with Jesus’ invitation: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Prayer: Lord, meet me here each day. Teach my heart to rest in You. Amen.
