Practice Surrender Prayer
Week 3 – Day 2
Story
Elliot was facing a career crossroads. He had two offers arrive in his inbox at the same time, each with different pros and cons. His prayers mostly sounded like, “God, which one is right? Please show me!” In his heart, what he really meant was for God to confirm what he wanted to hear, “Show me quickly, and let it be the one I prefer.” One evening, reading about Jesus in Gethsemane, Elliot was struck by the surrender in the prayer of Jesus: “Not my will, but Yours, be done.” For the first time, he knelt beside his bed and prayed, “Lord, I want Your will, and if that means the option I don’t prefer, help me say yes.” He still asked for guidance, but now it was with an open heart. The outcome didn’t become instantly clear, but the anxiety reduced as he trusted the decision, and his future, to a wiser Will.
Scripture
“Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
Application
Surrender prayer is not passivity; it is active trust after honest desire. Today, practice praying Jesus’ words over your decisions. This does not mean you forget your own desires; it means bringing your desires into God’s presence and choosing His wisdom over your own. Guidance flows more freely where resistance is laid down.
Daily Challenge
Action: For every meaningful decision today, pray, “Nevertheless, not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42), before you act.
Prayer: Father, I trust Your wisdom more than my own. I release this into Your hands. Amen.
