Receive Correction with Grace
Week 4 – Day 3
Story
Tim was excited about a new ministry idea and shared it with his mentor. He expected enthusiasm, but instead, his mentor raised concerns about timing and Tim’s current workload. Tim felt defensive, and his mind raced with reasons his mentor didn’t “get it.” But later that night, as he reread Nathan’s confrontation of David, and Jethro’s counsel to Moses, he realized that some of God’s greatest gifts had come to His people through hard words. Swallowing his pride, he returned to his mentor and said, “Thank you for loving me enough to push back. I want to hear more.” The humility and openness to be corrected allowed for a wiser plan that spared him and others from burnout.
Scripture
“Better is open rebuke than hidden love.” (Proverbs 27:5)
Application
Correction is one of the most loving forms of counsel God gives, but pride makes it hard to receive. Today, invite someone you trust to name a blind spot and practice listening without defending yourself. This isn’t about accepting every opinion, that would also be unwise, but about training your heart to welcome truth, even when it stings, because you trust the God who uses it to heal and grow you.
Daily Challenge
Action: Invite someone you respect to point out a blind spot in your life or thinking. Listen without defending yourself.
Prayer: God, thank You for loving me enough to correct me. Give me a soft heart toward truth. Amen.
