Consider Long-Term Consequences as Worship

Week 7 – Day 5

Consider Long-Term Consequences as Worship

Story

Ingrid used to see long-term thinking as a purely practical exercise, charts, pros and cons, retirement projections. After working through Pillar 5, she began to recognize it as an act of worship: “How will this decision ripple in my walk with God, my family, and His kingdom years from now?” One evening, she reviewed several choices from the past few years and traced how they were influencing her in the present. Some patterns made her thankful; others led her to repentance. As she thought through future decisions, she felt less like a stressed strategist and more like a steward, placing years and decades into God’s hands while seeking to be faithful today.

Scripture

“For our light affliction… works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.” (2 Corinthians 4:17–18)

Application

Considering long-term consequences is not about trying to control the future; it is about honoring God with an eternal perspective. Today, look at your current decisions through the perspective of years and eternity, asking what kind of legacy they build for His glory. This practice places your trust in a God whose purposes endure forever.

Daily Challenge

Action: Look at your decisions through the lens of years and eternity. Ask, “How will this affect my relationship with God, my family, and God’s kingdom in 1, 5, and 10 years?” Practice delayed gratification in at least one area, trusting that what honors God now will prove good in the long run.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to live today in light of the “eternal weight of glory” You promise. Amen.
