Practice Giving Wise Counsel
Week 4 – Day 6
Story
Emily often felt honored when friends asked her for advice, but she usually responded with quick opinions or personal anecdotes. After reading how counsel should point people to God’s Word and character, she decided to change. The next time a friend came to her with a dilemma, Emily silently prayed, “Holy Spirit, help me speak truth in love.” She asked questions, listened carefully, and then provided Scripture that spoke to the situation. Instead of telling her friend what to do, she helped her see how God might be leading. Afterwards, her friend said, “I feel like I’ve talked with God, not just with you.” Emily realized that giving counsel is not about being impressive or even just helpful; it is about being a faithful pointer to Christ.
Scripture
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another…” (Colossians 3:16)
Application
Wise counsel is a two-way calling: you receive it and you offer it. Today, when someone seeks your input, pause to pray and then aim to direct them toward Scripture, God’s character, and His purposes rather than merely sharing personal tips. This practice helps you grow as a conduit of God’s wisdom instead of a substitute for it.
Daily Challenge
Action: When someone asks your advice, pause to pray silently. Aim to point them to Scripture, God’s character, and His purposes, not just to practical tips.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, use my words to build up, not control. Help me speak truth in love. Amen.
