Seek Eternal Perspective from a Mentor

Week 5 – Day 5

Seek Eternal Perspective from a Mentor

Story

Darius was leaning toward a lucrative promotion that would demand far more travel. The pay and prestige were tempting, and most colleagues told him it was a “no-brainer.” Still, he felt unsettled. Remembering the value of wise counsel, he met with an older believer who had already walked decades ahead. As Darius laid out the offer, his mentor listened, then gently asked, “In 20 years, what do you want your children to remember about you? How will this decision shape that?” They talked about legacy, spiritual influence, and the unseen ripple effects of absence or presence. The conversation didn’t give Darius a simple “yes” or “no,” but it lifted his eyes from short-term gain to long-term impact, and that changed how he evaluated the opportunity.

Scripture

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life?” (Matthew 16:26)

Application

Sometimes you need someone outside your situation, with a longer view, to help you see what’s at stake. Today, invite a mentor or mature believer to help you look at a decision through the lens of eternity rather than immediacy. Their questions and perspective can expose places where you are tempted to trade lasting joy for temporary gain.

Daily Challenge

Action: Today, discuss a pending decision with a mature believer. Ask them to help you see beyond immediate benefits and costs to long-term spiritual impact.

Prayer: Lord, speak through Your servant. Help me hear what matters most to You. Amen.
