Seek Wise Counsel About Scripture’s Application
Week 2 – Day 6
Story
Ian had been reading verses about reconciliation and forgiveness, and he felt convicted about a long-strained relationship with his brother. He knew Scripture called him toward peace, but he wasn’t sure what that should look like in this complicated situation. Part of him wanted to pick up the phone right away, but another part wanted to avoid the situation. What if he was rejected? What if it made things worse? So he met with an older believer he trusted, bringing both the relevant passages and the messy details. As they talked, his mentor helped him apply those verses in a way that was relevant, patient, and safe, taking steps toward reconciliation while maintaining healthy boundaries. Ian realized that Scripture and wise counsel together gave him clarity he would not have found alone.
Scripture
“Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls,
but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 11:14)
Application
God never meant for you to interpret or apply Scripture in isolation. Today’s practice asks you to ask someone mature in the faith into your process of forgiveness. You bring what you have been seeing in the Word and ask, “Am I understanding this rightly? How have you lived this out?” This protects you from extremes and helps you walk in the kind of wisdom the early church modeled, searching the Scriptures together.
Daily Challenge
Action: Share what you have been seeing in Scripture with a mature believer. Ask how they understand those passages and how they have applied them in similar situations.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for speaking through Your Word and through Your people. Help me discern rightly. Amen.
